One of the largest and most noteworthy Jazz venues in town is The Kunstfabrik Scholt, also known as “The Chimney”. Operating since 1993, the club changed locations over the years, starting out in Prenzlauer Berg in a modest location overlooking a chimney, which gave the club its name. The initial program of the club included puppet theater shows, and later changed to Jazz jam sessions, which rapidly grew in popularity. In 2000, the new location opened to the awaiting public and boasted a much larger space on Chausseestraße in the Mitte district.  The big stage hosts national and international Jazz acts every evening; new comers and veterans, along with large bands from different European countries. The Deutschlandradio Kultur radio station occasionally broadcasts the great live music here throughout the country. On Wednesdays, you can catch cabaret shows here at The Chimney. The cabaret group “Wednesday Conclusion” have been performing on this stage for years and have a large following. The venue also hosts some improvisational theater groups, making the club an incredibly versatile platform for the performing arts.
